Helping PML to ‘follow the sun’

Seventeen years ago Mike Parr spotted a gap in the market for global perishable cargo logistics. He founded PML (Perishable Movements Ltd) and established the business in a 64,000 sq.ft site on the doorstep of Heathrow. Mike talks to us about produce, partnerships and destiny.

Knowing what you’re about in business is incredibly valuable. At PML we always say keep the main thing the main thing.

For us that ‘main thing’ is logistics and effectively managing the supply chain of temperature sensitive goods.

PML is a family-owned business, we’ve been established for 18 years and we manage the supply chain of temperature sensitive goods — moving perishable cargo by air, by sea, or by road.

In 2015 we were growing the business and increasing the size of our facility. As part of the expansion plan we needed to build some refrigeration and we decided to use asset finance to free up working capital.

We loved the Black Arrow approach. It wasn’t long winded. It was speedy and pragmatic. We met, discussed, signed and received our funding in less than a week from first contact.

Mike Parr, Founder and Managing Director

We were introduced to the Black Arrow team and we loved their approach. It wasn’t long-winded. It was speedy and pragmatic. We met, discussed, signed and received our funding in less than a week from first contact. And it has really worked for us — we’re doing well out of it and they are too. What’s nice is the personal contact, we know they’re there when we need them but they don’t phone you up and hassle you.

Thanks to Black Arrow’s help we’ve been able to take on additional work and are now truly international and can follow the sun around the world — whether we’re importing bananas from Cameroon, guavas from Equatorial Guinea or avocados from Israel. No pun intended, but we’ve really taken off.
